The Alpine Elf Europa Cup adjusts its 2020 calendar
Despite the ongoing difficult context, all the Alpine Elf Europa Cup stakeholders have agreed to a new provisional four-event calendar to be contested by the end of the year.
In view of the different restrictions across Europe and pending clarification on measures related to any lockdown lift and sporting events’ organisation, Signatech and the Alpine Elf Europa Cup competitors have approved a new 4-event calendar for the 2020 season.
Subject to the evolution of the situation, this revised calendar would maintain the traditional start to the season with the Coupes de Pâques meeting at Circuit Paul Armagnac de Nogaro. The teams and their drivers will have one day of collective tests on the Gers track before opening their campaign from August 21st to the 23rd.
Then, and for the first time in its history, the Alpine Elf Europa Cup will head to Circuit Nevers Magny-Cours (September 11-13). The round at Circuit Paul Ricard will take place on its original dates (October 2-4) before another new venue as the season-finale: Autódromo Internacional do Algarve at Portimao, now scheduled for October 30th-November 1st.
As GIP Grand Prix de France-Le Castellet announced earlier today the impossibility to maintain the 2020 French Grand Prix (June 26-28), the event bringing together the Alpine A110 Cups and Alpine A110 GT4s as the Formula 1 curtain raiser cannot be organised.
Faced with the exceptional context caused by the health crisis, Signatech is also in close contact with all the stakeholders in the category to adapt the sporting regulations, registration fees, tyre quotas as well as the prize schemes initially planned.
Signatech is also studying the option of running a third race at certain events where the Alpine Elf Europa Cup takes place in order to preserve an important and viable track time for all the parties involved in the discipline.
These decisions are, of course, subject to the evolving nature of the pandemic, the forthcoming directives from national and local authorities and the lifting of travel restrictions. Finally, Signatech would like to reiterate that the health of everyone involved in its activities will remain its utmost priority.
Alexandra Jentet, Alpine Elf Europa Cup manager: “The calendar overhaul is the result of an in-depth discussion carried out in collaboration with our competitors and the promoters hosting us. Maintaining the season quickly became obvious for those who trust us, but this unprecedented situation and the lack of immediate visibility force us to take measures today to reduce costs for our teams. The balance achieved allows us to maintain a high-quality calendar with varied, recognised and appealing tracks. We would like to thank everyone involved in the category and all its partners for their understanding and collaboration in this alternative calendar and hope we all come together as soon as conditions allow".
